Nigerian actress, Judith Opara Mazagwu otherwise known as Afrocandy
no doubt seems to have succeeded in giving the Nollywood a new face; raw pornography.
Recently, she stunned many Nigerians especially consumers of
Nollywood movies when she posted on her facebook wall requesting for actors and
actresses who could take up nude roles in her movie called Destructive
Instinct.
The content of the message was, for many, an affront which
precipitated a culture shock.
On April 19, 2012, on her Facebook wall, the request ran
thus “It takes a lot of guts to get naked in front of the camera. In couple of
my concluded up-coming movies, there’s a lot of nudity in them. I also have
scripts lined up for production and there will also be nudity in most of them.
So if you are an aspiring actor/actress, you have the passion and you will like
to get naked, send in your info/contacts for casting and I look forward to
meeting and working with you.”
The trailer of the movie got to the internet and was a cache
of sexual obscenity. What became disturbing for many was the array of artistes
of Nigerian extraction.
Afrocandy’s Destructive Instinct is obviously one of the
many of the recent but repelling experimentations of explicit pornography by
Nollywood.
It is still unarguable that Nigeria’s Nollywood is one of
the world’s most profound movie industries as it has been the hub of churning
millions of Naira at the export market.
Quite rich, also, was the industry’s application and
celebration of the values and cultural ethos of the African spirit—especially
Nigeria’s.
It was so tightly
knit that the industry was, in most cases, responsive to the cultural and moral
sensibilities of the Nigerian audience.
Scenes that depicted the triumph of evil over good, sexual
obscenities were carefully avoided both by the script writers and of course the
actors and actresses.
Nigerians, have over, the years, especially since the
emergence of the sobriquet, Nollywood, developed a kindred spirit with actors
and actresses of Nigerian extraction.
Sexually illicit representations were seen as the demeaning
derivative of the decadence in the moral values of the West and recently in the
movies of neighbouring West African countries—especially Ghana.
It was, therefore, an unpretentious and spontaneous
irritation by the Nigerian audience that welcomed such gradual and unchecked
introduction of pornography into Nollywood movies.
Aside Afrocandy’s Destructive Instinct, the assortment of
these porn movies includes Room 027; Bold 5 Babes; The Benjamins; Bedroom
Assassin; Pregnant Hawkers; Sinful Act 1 &2; Lesbian; Taboo! Pastor
Fornicates in the Office and a host of others.
While interestingly, familiar Nollywood faces like Collins
Onwochei, Tony Umez, Lisa Onu and many other neophytes are the cast of these
movies, quite predictably well, these movies and their producers have found the
internet as the veritable platform with YouTube providing the trailers of these
movies.
Naija StarNews24 can only advise Nollywood consumers to be wary
while picking up movies to watch with their kids as most of these x-rated Nollywood
movies quite unusual do not have any age restriction.
