Court reverses order not to restrict movement on sanitation day in Lagos

A Federal High Court in Lagos has suspended the enforcement of a judgement, which stopped the Lagos State Government from imposing movement restriction on citizens during the monthly sanitation exercise in the state.

By implication, anyone found moving between 7am and 10am on the last Saturday of the month, either on the state or federal roads in Lagos, while the sanitation exercise is being observed, would be liable to arrest.

The fresh order, made by Justice Mohammed Idris on Friday, put on hold the enforcement of a March 16, 2015 judgement nullifying the power of Lagos State and its agents to arrest anyone found moving during the sanitation exercise.

Jonathan, Buhari set to clash as APC, Falana reject May 28 handover date


There are indications that the All Progressives Congress is uncomfortable with the May 28 handover date proposed by the out-going administration.

Investigation has revealed that the outgoing President Goodluck Jonathan and the President-elect, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.) are set to clash over a proposal by the Jonathan team to hand over the mantle of leadership to Buhari on May the 28th, instead of the 29th.

Lamido leaves N11bn debt for incoming govt.

Gov. Sule Lamido of Jigawa has said he would leave N11 billion liability to the incoming government on May 29.

Lamido said this while assenting to the state's 2015 Appropriation Bill in Dutse.

He said the liability was part of the N17 billion used to construct an international airport in Dutse which was sourced from the budget of different sectors.

He said the Federal Government promised to refund the money used to construct the airport in the state but he could only get N6 billion out of the money.

Ortom, Benue Governor-elect to use 100 days in office for reconciliation

The Benue Governor-elect, Dr Samuel Ortom, said he would use his first 100 days in office for reconciliation.

 Ortom said this when five former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship aspirants in the state visited and congratulated him in Makurdi on Friday.

Xenophobic Attack: FG begins evacuation of Nigerians from South Africa on Monday

As the Xenophobic attack on foreigners including Nigerians continues unabated in South Africa, the Nigerian High Commission in Pretoria has stated that evacuation of Nigerians in the hostile country will begin on Monday, 20th April.

The development is a fall out of the xenophobic attacks being meted out by South Africans against other African nationals in their country, including Nigerians.

The statement said that Nigerians who feel endangered, and do not have the fare back home to quickly make themselves available for evacuation.

Strange Ondo disease linked to defilement of Malokun, community deity’s shrine

As the number deaths from the strange ailment that hit Ode Irele, the headquarters of Irele Local Government area of Ondo State on Wednesday has been on the rise, many residents are already fleeing the town.

The state government on Friday confirmed that 17 persons had died from the disease, an increase from the 12 that were originally confirmed. Some sources said the death toll resulting from the disease was as high as 30.

While the government said the cause of the ailment was not known, other sources from the community blamed the death on some people that defiled the shrine of the community deity known as Malokun.

Police arraign woman, 34, over dog's attack on neighbour

The police on Friday arraigned a 34-year-old woman, Blessing Eluwa, in an Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ogun, for allowing her dog to bite her neighbour.

Eluwa, who lives at No. 4, Ehiorobo Street, off The Bells area, Ota, is facing a two-count charge of causing breach of peace and allowing her dog to cause harm to her neighbour.

The Prosecutor, Sgt. Rosemary Brown, told the court that the accused committed the offence on March 30 at about 2 p.m. at her residence.

Brown said the accused negligently allowed her Alsatian dog, which should have been chained or caged, to bite one Herny Omoniyi.

Ebola-hit nations want $6bn aid, debts cancelled

The Ebola-stricken nations of West Africa are asking international donors to cancel their debts and give them 6 billion dollars over two years to rebuild their economies, devastated by the deadly disease.

Sierra Leone President, Ernest Bai Koroma, said on Friday in Washington that the waver and the financial assistance were become imperative.

"Our social services are ruined; our economies have halted; we need a real marshall plan to take us out of the woods," he said.

Woman arraigned for stealing boyfriend’s laptop

A 36-year-old woman, Mariam Bello, appeared before a Wuse Zone 6 Senior Magistrates' Court, Abuja, on Friday for allegedly stealing his boyfriend’s laptop  worth N150,000.

The accused person was arraigned by the police before Senior Magistrate Njidekah Duru, on a two-count charge of criminal trespass and theft.

She, however, denied committing the offence.

Prosecutor Musa Abdullahi told the court that the matter was reported by one Audu Jerry of Berger Quarry Area, Mpape, Abuja, on March 28.

Two Non-governmental Organisations, Ladies of Grace and Agape Sisters,  have threatened to protest nude on April 25 the woman governorship candidate in the Taraba governorship race is intimidated.

Mrs Jean Onuh, Coordinator of Agape Sisters, issued the threat in Abuja on Friday when she briefed reporters on the Taraba run-off election.

Onuh said Sen. Aisha Alhassan represented the interest of Nigerian women in the Taraba governorship poll holding on April 25.

She alleged that Alhassan was being intimidated by her opponents and officials of the Independent Electoral commission (INEC).

Mr Leke Orekoya, the father of the three kidnapped children in Lagos, has advised parents to devote more time to their children as they accorded to their work.

Orekoya, whose children were rescued on Tuesday night, gave the advice when he spoke with journalists at his residence at the Lawanson area of Surulere, Lagos.

He said that he was very happy and overwhelmed with joy when he saw his children.

More details continue to emerge on the arrest of Mary Adebiyi, the nanny who abducted the Orekoya kids and who was picked up by operatives of SARS, led by Abba Kyari yesterday last night at Coker Estate, Shasha , Akowonjo, Lagos.

She was arrested with her maid after she fled her home when she realised police operatives have closed in on her.

The police say contrary to what she told her employer and the OLX portal, her real name is Funmilayo Adeyemi and she hails from Osun State. She had earlier claimed Oyo State to her cover tracts.

Fee hike: Lawyers want court to jail Multichioce/DStv MD as company denies disobeying Court order


Two Lagos-based legal practitioners, Oluyinka Oyeniji and Osasuyi Adebayo,  have commenced contempt proceedings against the Managing Director of Multichoice Nigeria Limited, Mr. John Ugbe, for allegedly violating an order of court.

Ugbe, alongside the Public Relations Manager of the comapny, Caroline Oghuma, is  liable to being jailed if found guilty of the allegation.

The lawyers had, on April 2, 2015, secured a court order of interim injuction restraining Multichoice from giving effect to its proposed 20 per cent increment on subscription fee on the Digital Satellite Television being operated by it.

Microsoft unveils touch-friendly Office apps for Windows phones

Microsoft Corp (MSFT.O) has unveiled a long-awaited suite of touch-friendly Office apps that allow Windows phone users to work on Word, PowerPoint and Excel documents on their phones with touch commands and to transfer them easily between devices.

Test versions of what Microsoft is calling its Office Universal apps are available to download immediately and full versions will be available by the end of the month, Microsoft said.

Many Office users have waited months for Microsoft to introduce the apps, which adapt their look and commands to the device being used, whether Windows Phone or tablet.

THERE is no doubt that God used Moses Orimolade to establish the Cherubim and Seraphim Church, while the revelation of the Church was through Special Apostle, Prophet (Dr.) Gabriel Olubunmi Fakeye.

The Cherubim and Seraphim Church used to be one of the most misunderstood and vilified Churches in Nigeria.  But that has changed.  This Church of God has found a respectable place in the community of Churches in Nigeria.

INEC fixes April 25 for re-run election in Imo

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has fixed April 25 for re-run of the 2015 Governorship and some constituencies in the state House of Assembly elections in Imo.

Dr Gabriel Ada, INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner in Imo State, announced this at a news conference in Owerri on Wednesday.

It would be recalled that INEC had declared the April 11 governorship polls in Imo inconclusive.

This followed the cancellation of elections in more than 250 polling units in 23 of the 27 local government areas.

Parties, observers, disagree over Rivers Governorship, Assembly elections

Representatives of some political parties in Rivers and observer groups on Wednesday, expressed different views on the outcome of the Governorship and House of Assembly elections in the State.

The United Nations Women and Pan African Observers said at a news conference in Port Harcourt that the elections in the state were free and fair.

Mrs Eno Udensi, President, Pan African Women observers, said the elections in Rivers were peaceful and creditable.

PDP accuses APC of planting moles to destabilise it

The Peoples Democratic (PDP), on Wednesday in Abuja alleged that the All Progressives Congress (APC) was trying to destabilise it by planting moles within its fold.

Mr Olisa Metuh, the party`s National Publicity Secretary, stated this while speaking with journalists at the end of the party`s National Working Committee (NWC) meeting.

The meeting was the first after it lost the presidential election to the APC.

``We have noted that while some members had left our party, others have been asked to remain to cause disaffection and disharmony to destroy the spirit of unity in the party,’’ Metuh said.

I am not seeking asylum anywhere, says Alison-Madueke

Petroleum Minister, Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke, said last night she was not seeking asylum in any part of the world, as claimed by her traducers.

Madueke, who spoke through the Group Public Affairs General Manager of Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, Mr. Ohi Alegbe, denied ever contemplating relocating from Nigeria.

An online publication reported, yesterday, that the minister had been denied asylum by six countries, where she had so far applied, but did not mention the countries involved.

Alegbe said his boss merely went for a short vacation outside Nigeria and would soon return to her job.

The three kids kidnapped by a nanny employed by OLX have been released by their nanny abductor who wanted N15million as ransom for the trio.

It would be recalled that on 8 April, social media was awash with the kidnapping of Aderomola, (11 months), Adedamola (4 years) and Demola (6 years) by their nanny on Lawanson Road, Surulere, Lagos state.

How woman died in hotel room during fight over sex

The police at State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, Panti, Yaba, have arrested a 55-year old man following the death of a 65-year-old woman in a hotel room at Olodi Apapa in Lagos State, western Nigeria.

The suspect, Isiaka Akanbi, allegedly took Risikat Raheem to the popular hotel located at Aribo Street, Olodi Apapa at 7 p.m. for sex romp when the incident allegedly happened.

While they were in the hotel, there was disagreement between Akanbi and the late Risikat which resulted in a scuffle.

Chibok girls seen ‘alive’ in Gwoza


The schoolgirls abducted from Chibok community by Boko Haram insurgents were reportedly seen alive, according to a report by BBC.

More than 50 of the girls abducted by militant Islamists in Nigeria last year were seen alive three weeks ago, a woman has told the BBC.

She saw the girls in the north-eastern Gwoza town before the Boko Haram militants were driven out of there by regional forces.

Move to impeach Fayose suffers temporary setback, as state judiciary claims ignorance of letter

The move by the 19 All Progressive Congress (APC) lawmakers in Ekiti State House of Assembly to impeach the state governor,Mr Ayodele Fayose and his Deputy,Dr Kolapo Olubunmi Olusola may have suffered a temporary setback

The lawmakers through the embattled speaker,Hon Adewale Omirin had announced through a letter sent to the Chief Judge of the State last week,Justice Ayodeji Daramola to set up a seven member panel to investigate allegation of gross misconduct against the governor, Mr Fayose and his Deputy.

But the move may have suffered a temporary setback, as the state judiciary has claimed ignorance of such a letter.

I won’t discriminate against any tribe —Ambode

Lagos State Governor-elect, Akinwunmi Ambode has declared that he won’t discriminate against any tribe in the course of governing the state.

He made the declaration in his acceptance speech shortly before he received his Certificate of Return from the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, for emerging winner in the governorship poll conducted in Lagos, western Nigeria, on Saturday.

Ambode polled 811,994 votes to defeat Agbaje who polled 659,788 votes in a keenly contested governorship election.

Buhari appoints Tunde Bakare to head Transition Committee

The President-Elect, General Muhammadu Buhari has appointed the General Overseer of the Latter Rain Assembly, Pastor Tunde Bakare to head his transition committee.

The Bakare-led transition committee is expected to work with a similar committee appointed by the out-going president Goodluck Jonathan.

You must take care of me after office, Suswam tells Ortom

Benue State Governor, Gabriel Suswam, has informed the state Governor-elect, Chief Samuel Ortom, to look after him after his exit from office in May.

Suswam stated this at the Banquet Hall of Government House, Makurdi, when he played host to the Governor-elect on Monday.

He said, “When I leave (office), I will be a burden on you and you must take care of me.”

Suswam assured the people that his party, the Peoples Democratic Party, will not challenge Ortom’s mandate in court, stressing that litigation was an unnecessary distraction.

My ministers must declare their assets on assumption of office –Buhari

The President-elect, Muhammadu Buhari, says those seeking political appointments in his administration will have to declare their assets before taking office and before leaving.

Buhari, who said this would encourage accountability and reduce corruption, was speaking during an interview with Sahara TV on Sunday.

He said, “All those that were governors, ministers, permanent secretaries, head of foreign staff and all those with political appointments will have to declare their assets on the assumption of their appointment and definitely with the courts. And once they leave they have to re-declare their assets.”

Taraba: Nigerians' hope of having first elected female governor suffers setback as INEC declares election inconclusive

While there are apprehension and confusion among Nigerians as they anxiously await the official result of Taraba state governorship poll from the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, they might have to wait a bit longer as the state returning officer for governorship election Prof. Muhamdu Kyari has declared the governorship election in Taraba as inconclusive.

The returning officer made the declaration in Jalingo Taraba state capital after collating the result from sixteen out of the seventeen local government areas in Taraba state.

He said the reason for the declaration was because the number of canceled votes was above the gap between APC who came second in the election to PDP who came first.

Agbaje urges Lagosians to ignore online results, insists he has not lost


The governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in Lagos State, Mr. Jimi Agbaje, has urged his supporters to disregard the figures being circulated online.


Agbaje said on his Facebook page that he was still hopeful of victory, adding that they should wait for the official figures from the Independent National Electoral Commission.


He said, “I want to assure you that we are currently monitoring the vote counting process so please do not believe the various unofficial numbers that are being shared across the Internet .


“An official announcement will be made at the appropriate time when all numbers are in. Continue to remain resolute. Thank you for your continued support. “


Though INEC is yet to announce the final results of the Lagos state gubernatorial election, results have continued to awash social networks indicating that the All Progressive Congress candidate, Akinwunmi Ambode is in clear lead in most of the local governments.
