The Akwa Ibom State Police Command on Tuesday arrested a 60-year-old pastor who doubles as a traditional healer, Mr. Udo Job, for raping a 14-year-old daughter of one of his patients.

The girl had visited her sick father when the man sexually assaulted her.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr. Gabriel Achong, who was represented by the Assistant Commissioner of Police, Mike Okoli, said the pastor sent the girl’s mother to the market and lured her into his room and forcibly defiled her.

President Goodluck Jonathan on Friday said there was no truth in the claim by a national leader of the All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, that he offered the former Lagos State governor the opportunity to serve as Vice President in a proposed Interim National Government.

Jonathan, who spoke with State House correspondents in Abuja through his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Dr. Reuben Abati, described Tinubu’s claim as absurd and ridiculous.

Card Readers: Presidency mounts pressure on court to stop INEC

Strong indications emerged yesterday that the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) is banking on the court to stop the Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC) and its chairman, Prof. Attahiru Jega, from going ahead with the use of Smart Card Readers(SCRs) for the March 28 and April 11 elections.

The resolve of the party and the presidency is that a favourable judgment must be secured at all cost, if the INEC must be stopped from using the novel device for the polls.

There are two cases before the Federal High Court in Abuja and Lagos. Sources said the presidency would not mind instituting a fresh case in another court just to have its way.

‘’In our earlier statement on the issue, we gave President Jonathan the benefit of the doubt by asking him to clarify what happened, just as the Moroccan King has done. Instead, a loquacious spokesman for the President decided to abuse us. A housewife, Mrs Titi Kareem, has dumped her husband, Rafiu after he reportedly impregnated a mentally sick woman.

Contrary to the assertions of officials of his Foreign Affairs Ministry, President Goodluck Jonathan said on Friday that he has neither spoken to or had conversations with King Mohammed VI of Morroco.


In an embrassing twist to the brewing diplomatic row between Nigeria and the North African country, President Jonathan described claims that he had spoken with King Mohammed to “misinformation” in a statement issued on his behalf by Reuben Abati, his special adviser on media and publicity.

Abati added in the statement that the President had ordered the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Aminu Wali to urgently undertake a full investigation of the claim which emanated from the Ministry.

“The investigation is to identify all those who were responsible for the unacceptable act of official misinformation which has resulted in an unnecessary diplomatic row with another country and national embarrassment.


“It is also expected to unveil the motives of the culprits.

“President Jonathan has also ordered that prompt and commensurate disciplinary action be taken against the culpable  person or persons,” said Abati.

APC forged alleged Presidency letter ordering investigation of Atiku, Tinubu, Amechi, others, says Muazu

The national chairman of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Adamu Mu’azu,   has stated that the supposed leaked document from the Presidency ordering the secret financial investigation of leaders of the main opposition party, All Progressives Congress (APC) was forged.

He said the letter directed to the Economic Financial Crimes Commission by the Chief of Staff to the President, Brigadier General Jones Oladehinde Arogbofa (rtd), to investigate Bola Tinubu, Atiku Abubakar, Governor Rotimi Amaechi and 17 others was forged.

 “Imagine APC going to the length of forging documents. How very sad. Nigerians are wiser now,” Mu’azu wrote on his Twitter handle.

Nigerian troops discover Boko Haram ‘bomb factory’ – DHQ

Nigeria’s military said on Friday that it had uncovered a Boko Haram bomb-making factory in the northeastern town of Buni Yadi after soldiers retook the town from the insurgents.

Islamist fighters captured the town in Yobe state in August last year as the group seized swathes of territory in the crisis-hit northeast.

The military announced that it had wrested back control last Saturday.

Jonathan, PDP afraid of election – Amaechi

Hon. Rotimi Amaechi, governor of Rivers state has said that President Goodluck Jonathan and the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP are afraid of the outcome of the forthcoming general elections.

Amaechi who is also the Director-General, All Progressives Congress, APC Presidential Campaign Organisation stated this in Port Harcourt during APC’s zonal campaign rally, according to a statement by Ibim Seminatari, Director of Communications of Rivers State APC Campaign Organisation.

NASS approves $53 benchmark for 2015 budget


The two chambers of the National Assembly, has approved 53 dollars as benchmark for the sale of crude oil for the 2015 budget and the 2015 - 2017 Medium Term Expenditure Framework.

Rep. Victor Ogene, Deputy Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Media and Public Affairs, made the disclosure on Thursday in Abuja in an interview with newsmen.

He said that a resolution by the conference committee of legislators from both chambers of the National Assembly also adopted an exchange rate of N190 to one dollar.

Single mother arrested for inserting heroine in private part


The NDLEA on Thursday arrested a 31-year-old single mother for concealing 430 grammes of heroin in her private part in a bid to avoid arrest.

The Head of Public Affairs of the NDLEA, Mr Mitchell Ofoyeju, made the disclosure in a statement in Ikeja.

He said the arrest took place at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos during the inward screening of passengers on an Emirates Airlines flight.

The Commander of the NDLEA at the airport, Mr Hamza Umar, was quoted as saying that the arrest was facilitated with the aid of scanning machines.

“During the inward screening of Emirate passengers, one Aladi Onyinye Juliet tested positive for narcotic ingestion.

The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Air Chief Marshal Alex Badeh, said ‘never again’ would the military allow any territory of Nigeria to be occupied by terrorists.

Collapsed Synagogue building: T.B. Joshua appeals against court judgement

Pastor Temitope Joshua and the Registered Trustees of the Synagogue Church of All Nations (SCOAN), have appealed against the judgement of a Lagos high court which declined to stop the on-going coroner inquest into the September 12, 2014 collapsed building in the church.

This was made known Thursday to the coroner, Chief Magistrate Oyetade Komolafe at the resumed sitting of the coroner court in Ikeja through their counsel, Seun Abimbola.

Abimbola had been asked by the coroner court to pick a date that the founder of the SCOAN, Pastor Joshua would appear before the court to give testimony in the matter.

APC gives kudos to military for onslaught against Boko Haram


The Presidential Campaign Organisation of All Progressives Congress (APC), has applauded the Armed Forces recent victories in the fight against Boko Haram terrorists.

Lagos set to power 172 schools with solar

The Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Fashola has said the state government had commenced a process to connect 172 public schools in the state to the solar power.

Fashola made the remark at the presentation of corporate social responsibility awards to 424 individuals, civil society groups and corporate bodies, for their contributions to primary and secondary schools in the state.

POINTBLANK: Neither I nor other Obas would campaign for you – Adetona tells Jonathan

The Awujale and Paramount ruler of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Adetona, has  made it explicitly clear to President Goodluck Jonathan that neither him (Adetona) nor any other monarch in Ijebuland should be expected to campaign for Jonathan in respect of the rescheduled March 28 Presidential election.

Speaking when President Jonathan paid him a visit at his palace on Thursday, Adetona said any monarch who took the path of seeking to persuade the people to go in one way or another over the forthcoming general elections which he described as being “full of tension,” would surely bring “trouble” upon himself.

He advised the President Jonathan to sell his achievements and programmes to the Ijebus by himself, explaining that he had already told his subjects – whether Christians and Muslims, to act wisely and never to vote for corrupt politicians (ojelus).
