‘My wife flirts around with okada men’

A housewife, Adenike Nasirudeen, who filed a divorce suit at the Grade ‘A’ Customary Court, Lagos State asking for dissolution of her six -year-old marriage to her husband, Fatai Nasirudeen got more than she bargained for when her husband told the court that she  flirts around with okada men.

In the suit, Adenike alleged that her husband had been mistreating her for some time now and that he was too temperamental.

In his own response, the respondent told the court: “She is a flirt. She has been flirting around with an okada rider (commercial motorcyclist). She always keep late nights and she did not give me peace of mind.

“Though, l reported the matter to her parents hoping that she would turn a new leaf, but she does not show any sign of remorse”.

Earlier in her submission, Adenike informed that her husband is highly temperamental, and beats her at any slightest provocation.

“There was a day he accused me of stealing N75,000 from his wardrobe, he capitalised on the accusation, and stopped giving me feeding allowance”.

Adenike, however denied having any no amorous relationship with any okada rider because he is well known to her husband and had once taken her and Nasirudeen to their office.

“Shortly after l packed out of his house, he came to apologise, hoping that he had had a change of mind, but unknown to me that he was there on a mission to kill the only child that binds us together”.

She added that her husband had made attempts to strangle their daughter to death, and in the process, to get the child for him he punches her in the stomach.

She therefore urged the court to dissolve the marriage and grant her custody of the child.

The court president, Mr. Emmaunel Shokunle has adjourned the case till October 9, 2012 for further hearing.

Jonathan forms new Special Force battalion to boost Aso Rock's security

President Goodluck Jonathan has officially consecrated a newly formed 176 Special Force battalion, to join the existing 177 and 7 battalions of the presidential guards brigade.

He performed the ceremony during the presidential change of guards by Guards Brigade to mark Nigeria’s 52nd independence anniversary.

The guards brigade is a special unit of the military that oversees the security of the President and Aso Rock. The ceremony took place at the fore-court of the Presidential Villa.

Minister of State for Defence, Erelu Olusola Obada, told State House correspondents that the newly-established 176 battalion was to strengthen the brigade and to make it more effective in response to security challenges in and around the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Obada said the ceremonial presentation of colours to the newly-formed battalion was symbolic and could only be done by the President and the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces.

The special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Dr. Reuben Abati, also said the ceremony was special and grand in marking the independence of a nation.

Abati said this year’s anniversary, like that of 2011, was low-keyed to save cost and adequately prepare for the big event of 2014 when the nation would mark 100 years of existence from the amalgamation of 1914.

He debunked claims in certain quarters that the event was moved to the Villa for security reasons.

“The anniversary is also low-keyed this year, taking place within the precincts of the State House. President Jonathan has personally responded to the allegation that the event is being held within the State House by making it clear that in 2014, we will have a big event; the centenary of Nigeria’s celebration, since amalgamation.

“A few years ago, we had the 50th anniversary of Nigeria’s independence and that was a big event. The President’s take on this, is that between that 50th year anniversary and the centenary of Nigeria’s amalgamation, we should have low-keyed celebration. Those who are looking for celebration on a grand scale should wait till 2014 when we will have the 100 years of Nigeria’s amalgamation,” he said.

The 52nd anniversary was marked with a ceremonial change of guards by the outgoing and incoming quarter and guard brigade.

There were also parades and military displays by the Nigerian Army Brigade of Guards, inspection of fitness and weapons, a symbolic colour-parade as well as band parade in different military tunes and melody.

The president was assisted by the Chief of Defence Staff, Air Chief Marshal Oluseyi Petinrin, service chiefs and heads of other para-military agencies to release the pigeons, which signified the unfettered peace and harmony of the nation.

President Jonathan also signed the anniversary register and cut an anniversary cake baked in national colours. Present at ceremony were Vice President Namadi Sambo, Senate President David Mark, his deputy, Sen. Ike Ekweremadu, and the Deputy Speaker, House of Representatives, Hon. Emeka Ihedioha.
The Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Aloma Mukhtar, led other justices and heads of court to the event. Also in attendance were former Head of State, Gen. Yakubu Gowon, ministers, presidential aides, members of the Diplomatic Corps, the business community, representatives of religious leaders and traditional rulers.

Cynthia Osokogu: Court Grants 2 Suspects Bail, Remands Driver

A Yaba Chief Magistrate’s Court yesterday Wednesday Sept 26th granted bail to two suspects arrested in connection with the alleged murder of Cynthia Osokogu. But the driver who was accused of driving the prime suspect to Cosmilla Hotel, FESTAC, was remanded in prison custody.

The suspects granted bail – Nonso Ezike (22), who is the younger brother to Olisaeloka, one of the alleged killers, and Ezeaka Chinonso (27) – were arrested by policemen at Area E for receiving and selling Cynthia’s BlackBerry phone.

Nonso’s lawyer, Mr. J. C Ngobili, told the court that the accused was a student of the Federal University of Technology, Owerri, and prayed the court to grant him bail in liberal terms.

The Magistrate, Mr. P.A. Adekomaya, admitted that although the offences were bailable, he pointed out that the bail condition ought not to be too liberal in view of the circumstances surrounding Cynthia’s murder.

He granted Nonso and Ezeaka bail in the sum of N500,000 each with two sureties in like sum, adding that the sureties must not be teachers or local government employees. He added that the sureties could be bank tellers.

The third accused person, Gideon Okechukwu, a driver, was however charged with eight counts of murder, rape, robbery, conspiracy, administering a harmful substance to the deceased among others.

Okechukwu had told PUNCH Metro before he was arraigned that he only drove the alleged killers from the area where the hotel was situated, adding that he had no role in Cynthia’s murder.

Okechukwu’s lawyer, Bello, prayed the court to also grant the accused bail, adding that he had been held at the State Criminal Investigation Department.

The magistrate, who quickly interjected, explained that it wasn’t within the jurisdiction of the court to grant bail for such offences.

Okechukwu was remanded in Ikoyi Prison. The matter was adjourned till October 3, 2012.

Grandma Arrested With Cocaine

A 65-year old grandmother, who is also a mother of six, was on Wednesday arrested for alleged drug trafficking, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, said.

NDLEA said the suspect, Hassan Fatimat Abike, also known as Chika Okoye, was to board a British Airways plane at the Murtala Muhammed international airport in Lagos, southwest Nigeria, when she was arrested with substances suspected to be cocaine.

“Every arrangement appeared to have been made for a 65-year old grandmother to smuggle 1.740kg of cocaine into London in herbal syrup,” said Mitchell Ofoyeju, NDLEA Head of Public Affaits.

“It was not her fist time of going to London and the drug was cleverly packed to avoid detection. It was packed in balloons and inserted in ten plastic containers of herbal syrup,” Ofoyeju said.

He quoted the Airport Commander, Mr. Hamza Umar, as saying that the suspect had two international passports that bear Hassan Fatimat Abike.

Her passport numbers, he said, are A03348648 and A3771781A.

“She was caught during the screening of British Airways passengers to London. The cocaine found in her possession was packed in balloons and prepared into the shape of the plastic bottles. It was also wrapped in black polythene inside 10 plastic bottles of local herbal mixtures. Each bottle was neatly sealed to avoid suspicion,” Umar was quoted as saying.

Preliminary investigation, NDLEA said, revealed that she is also known as Chika Okoye.
“She speaks Ibo and Yoruba fluently. Her father is a native of Abeokuta while her mother hails from Owerri, Imo State,” NDLEA said.

The agency said that the suspect currently lives alone in Owerri and sells clothes to earn a living.

NDLEA alleged that the suspect claimed ownership of the drug in a statement and explained that it was given to her by a friend.

Chairman/Chief Executive of the NDLEA, Ahmadu Giade was quoted as saying that NDLEA is investigating her claim.

“The case is under investigation to ascertain her role. This is very worrisome considering the fact that she is a grandmother,” Giade was quoted as saying.

NDLEA said the suspect will soon be charged to court.

"Marry My Lesbian Daughter; Get $65m"- says Biz Tycoon

Are you an eligible bachelor ready to marry? Can you play a lovey-dovey and win the heart of a 33 year old beautiful woman, who already has a same-sex loving attraction to another woman?

If you fit these descriptions, catch the next plane for Paris or Hong kong in search of Gigi Chao, daughter of a Hong Kong billionaire.

The Hong Kong businessman has offered a $65 million “marriage bounty” to any man who can win the heart of his lesbian daughter, a report said Wednesday.

Cecil Chao announced the financial reward of HK$500 million after his daughter, Gigi, married her same-sex partner of seven years in France earlier this year, the South China Morning Post reported.

“I don’t mind whether he is rich or poor. The important thing is that he is generous and kind hearted,” 76-year-old Chao was quoted as saying.

“Gigi is a very good woman with both talents and looks. She is devoted to her parents, is generous and does volunteer work,” he added.

Gigi Chao-right and her gay friend.

He also rejected “false reports” that Gigi, 33, had married abroad, saying she was still single.
Chao, who owns publicly-listed property developer Cheuk Nang, could not be reached for comment.

Same-sex marriages are not recognised in Hong Kong, a socially conservative Chinese city where homosexuality was decriminalised in 1991.

Chao is well known in Hong Kong’s social circles and regularly appears at public events with his latest young girlfriend.

He reportedly once claimed to have had intimate relations with 10,000 women.

Man Disguised As Car Seat To Enter Spain

Police described the attempt to pass undetected as 'unique and innovative'.

An ingenious illegal immigrant who disguised as a car seat in order to gain entrance into Spain has been caught by Guardia Civil officers.

The 20-year-old man from Guinea was hidden inside a Renault 7's passenger seat, with the co-driver sat on top of him while attempting to sneak into the Spanish enclave of Melilla from Morocco over the Beni-Enzar crossing on Friday.

The insides of the seat had been discarded, leaving only the frame which he slid into. The security officers had to help the man out of his hiding place.

Although arrested, the security respected the Guinean's ingenuity describing his attempt to pass undetected as 'unique and innovative'.

The immigrant's accomplices, two Moroccan men, aged 21 and 23, who allegedly tried to smuggle him across the border were arrested and will appear before a court accused of people smuggling later this week.

The man, who was also detained and appeared before a judge has been expelled from the enclave.
