The Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) said it
has ordered for 500,000 pre-paid metres to be distributed to its customers this
year.
Alhaji Muktar Baffa, the Head, Corporate Communication Unit
of the company, made this known in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria
(NAN) on Wednesday in Kano.
Baffa said the first consignment of the meters totalling
100,000 was being expected in March.
Baffa said the meters would be distributed to customers in
the zone comprising Kano, Jigawa and Katsina states.
On shortage of power supply facing the zone, Baffa explained
that the company currently receives about 300 megawatts from the national grid
against the 600 megawatts it require daily.
``Our requirement is 600 megawatts per day but we get less
than 300 megawatts and150 megawatts on the average," Baffa said.
However, he pledged the company’s commitment to quality
service and urged customers to ensure prompt payment of their bills.
