BUSTED LIE: Abati displays Cameroun’s Douala-Yaoundé road as second section of Enugu-Port Harcourt road flagged off by President Jonathan

In his desperate bid in showing records of President Goodluck Jonathan’s achievements in order to boost his chances of winning his second term in office, investigations have revealed that the picture of Enugu/Port Harcourt Road shown by Reuben Abati, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, on his website was a blatant lie.
On his website, reubenabati.com.ng,  Abati had displayed the road as part of the "Transformation Agenda" of Jonathan being fulfilled.
According to the story titled, ‘Transformation Continues! GEJ Flags Off New Section Of Enugu-Portharcourt Road’ President Jonathan, who was represented at the flagging off of the road by the Minister for Works, Chief Mike Onolememen, said the gesture was a demonstration of his avowed commitment to the development of road infrastructure in the country in line with the transformation agenda of his administration.

He noted that the Enugu-Port Harcourt dual carriage way is an important North-South arterial highway route connecting so many important cities in the country.
Jonathan said the highway constructed over 70 years ago was begging for total rehabilitation following enormous pressure on it as a result of increasing traffic flow, hence, the resolve of his administration to give it a face-lift.
He noted with delight the progress of work on section one of the expressway, stretching from Lokpanta to Aba awarded in 2013, hinting that section three of the road spanning from Enugu to Lopkanta had already been awarded and would be flagged-off next week.
Onolememen said with the award of contract for the second and third sections of the road, “the entire stretch of the Enugu-Port Harcourt highway is now under total rehabilitation.”
This he added was in response to “the cries and yearnings of the good people of the South-South and South East zones and indeed all Nigerians.”

However, investigations by The Mega StarNews showed that the road in question was actually a Doula/Yaounde Road Project in Cameroon commissioned sometimes last year.

Now, check out the two stories and the same picture being used. Who constructed this road, Cameroun or Nigeria?

President Goodluck Jonathan yesterday flagged off the second section of the Enugu-PortHarcourt Expressway.
According to Punch, the 41.4 kilometer road was awarded to the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) at the cost of N34, 047, 096, 919.17 with a completion period of 30 months.
President Jonathan who was represented at the flagging off of the road by the Minister for Works, Chief Mike Onolememen, said the gesture was a demonstration of his avowed commitment to the development of road infrastructure in the country in line with the transformation agenda of his administration.

It will be recalled that President Jonathan last year said, his administration has created lots of job opportunities and constructed many Projects in the South East.

(Business in Cameroon) - Questioned by the Cameroonian government’s daily publication, Mr Lu, one of the heads of China First Highway Engineering, the company that nabbed the deal to build the Douala-Yaoundé highway, has indicated that the project’s commencement has been blocked by the indemnity that local residents in the area of the project have not received. The compensation package is officially valued at 1.587 trillion FCfa for those living along the first 10 km of the project.
“We’re actually ready to start building. Our engines are in position. Currently, we have 195 units of heavy equipment and other smaller units on site, amounting to a total of 211 engines along the project area to PK37. But we can’t touch a single tree or blade of grass if local residents haven’t received their compensation,”explained Mr Lu.
He goes on to reveal that, due to the modifications made to the original project by the Cameroonian authorities, particularly the replacement of the Chinese speed limit (100 Km/h) with that of the French (110 Km/h) and the addition of extra lanes, “the starting phase will be reduced as its financing has already been disbursed. We can only do 47 Km now to stay within budget.”
Indeed, the initial construction contract planned to build 68 Km of roadway with 23 Km being updated for a total cost of 284 billion FCfa, of which 241 billion FCfa was provided by Eximbank of China, following a financing agreement signed with the Cameroonian government on June 28, 2012 in Yaoundé. The Yaoundé-Douala highway project aims to create a modern network of around 215 Km between Cameroon’s two largest cities. Construction will last around 60 months, of which 12 will be used to conduct studies.
