An Abule Egba Magistrates' Court in Lagos on Friday granted
bail in the sum of N50,000 to one Ekene Iyadi who abducted a 17-year-old girl.
The magistrate, Mrs Adenike Shonubi, granted the accused
bail with a surety in like sum after he pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Shonubi , then, adjourned the case till April 15 for further
hearing.
The accused, 25, a motor cycle rider, who lives at 8,
Railway Lane, Jafa Bus Stop, Agbado, a suburb of Lagos is facing a one-count
charge of abduction.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Insp. Racheal Williams, had told
the court that the accused committed the offence on March 27 at the accused’s
residence.
The prosecution said that the victim had left
her aunty’s house where she was
staying on March 20 for her home town in Ekiti
because her aunty scolded her.
"When she returned to Lagos from Ekiti, she didn't go
to her aunty. All efforts by her aunty to trace the victim proved abortive
until she came across the accused whom she knew as the victim’ s boy friend.
"He confessed that the victim had been with him since
she returned from Ekiti , and the police had to arrest him," she said.
The offence, according to the prosecutor, contravened
Section 141 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that an offender
would be liable to two years’ imprisonment.
