Asiwaju Tinubu, APC National Leader |
The National Chairman of All Progressives Congress (APC),
Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, said the running mate for the party’s presidential
candidate for the 2015 general election might be announced on Wednesday.
Odigie-Oyegun, who disclosed this to newsmen in Abuja on
Tuesday at the end of National Working Committee meeting of the party, said
that the presidential candidate, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, would make the
announcement in a news conference.
He said that the party had reached agreement on presidential
running mate but insisted that it would be made public by Buhari.
''The choice is not delayed; the candidate will speak to you
people. I have a feeling he will speak to you tomorrow.
''The party has consulted with the candidate and we have
reached some agreement and he will address you tomorrow,'' he said.
Speculations have been riffed that the APC National Leader,
Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu might be eventually picked as the running mate after
the South West leaders had endorsed him based on his political clouts in the
region.
Other prospective aspirants such as Gov. Adams Oshiomole and Gov. Rotimi Amechi were said to have been dropped because they are from the same South-South region where the party's National Chairman, Chief John Oyegun hails from.
Mega StarNews learnt that the NWC members at the meeting
included the Speaker of House of Representatives, Aminu Tambuwal and former
Federal Capital Territory minister, Nasir El-Rufai.
The party has up till 18 December to submit the names of its
flag-bearer and running mate to INEC.
