Ondo State Government workers on Tuesday began a two-day
warning strike over three months unpaid salaries.
The state Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Mrs
Bosede Daramola, said in a telephone interview with the News Agency of Nigeria
(NAN) in Akure that, the strike was to draw the attention of the government to
pay the workers.
According to her, the state government has failed to respond
to the workers demand, in spite of series of meetings between it and the union.
She stressed that it was incumbent on the government to pay
all the outstanding salaries and remit all dues deducted from the earnings of
the workers to the union.
``This is just a two-day warning strike to let them know
that we are committed to fighting for our right.
``We are tired of promises and determined to embark on
full-scale strike if the state government remains unyielding after this warning
strike.
``Our members can no longer be taken for a ride because we
also need to cater for our families from our earnings," she said.
It was reported that government offices, mostly located around
Alagbaka area of Akure, have been locked up as workers remain at home.
