Election sabotage: Police to begin strike March 28

The rescheduled Presidential election might witness another serious hiccup as policemen who are being owed promotion arrears have said they would embark on strike on March 28 to press home their demand and convince the police authorities that they were serious about their threat to down-tool.

Nigeria’s Presidential election is scheduled to hold on March 28 and the policemen are expected to play crucial role of providing security during and after the elections.

The police personnel said over 100 colleagues retired in 2014 without being paid their promotion arrears and other benefits, adding that the payment had been pending for over two years.

Polytechnics lecturers suspend planned strike

The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics, ASUP has shelved its planned strike, billed to begin on Wednesday.

The decision to suspend the strike action was reached today (Tuesday) after meeting with the education minister, Ibrahim Shekarau.

You dare not go on strike, IGP warns police


The Inspector-General of Police, Mr Suleiman Abba, has warned police personnel allegedly threatening to embark on strike over unpaid arrears of promotion of dire consequences of breaching extant rules and regulations.

This is contained in a statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, Mr Emmanuel Ojukwu, on Thursday in Abuja.

Court workers insist strike continues until…as FIDA urges workers to call off strike



The Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN) has urged its members to sustain the ongoing strike until their demand for financial autonomy was granted by government.
Ahmed Bello, the National Vice President (North East Zone) of the union, made this position known to newsmen in Gombe.

He said this would help the union to uphold the financial autonomy of the judicial system in the country as declared by the court.

``This judgment was obtained January 2014; all efforts had being put in place to see that this strike does not take place and there is nothing we can do.

Ondo workers embark on 2-day warning strike over unpaid salaries


Ondo State Government workers on Tuesday began a two-day warning strike over three months unpaid salaries.

The state Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Mrs Bosede Daramola, said in a telephone interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Akure that, the strike was to draw the attention of the government to pay the workers.

According to her, the state government has failed to respond to the workers demand, in spite of series of meetings between it and the union.

LASUTH health workers join JOHESU strike

Health workers at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), Ikeja, on Thursday said that they would join the ongoing nationwide strike by the Joint Health Sector Union (JOHESU).

The national body of JOHESU had directed all health workers in Lagos State Government-owned hospitals to join the strike from Dec. 4.

The union had on Nov. 12 embarked on an indefinite strike in all the Federal Government-owned hospitals to press home its demands.
