Orekoya kids released by nanny abductor, as OLX exonerates self, pledges ‘tighter measures’

Mrs Orekoya and her kids
The three kids kidnapped by a nanny employed by OLX have been released by their nanny abductor who wanted N15million as ransom for the trio.

It would be recalled that on 8 April, social media was awash with the kidnapping of Aderomola, (11 months), Adedamola (4 years) and Demola (6 years) by their nanny on Lawanson Road, Surulere, Lagos state.

On Wednesday morning, the mother of the three kids, Adebisi Orekoya had written on Facebook page, “We give God all the Glory. Our Orekoya missing Kids have been found.Thank you so much everyone for your prayers and moral and Financial support all along,”
She wrote further: “The list is endless, of awesome mothers, sisters, business partners, father’s and even kids too. You’ve been amazing! May God grant all your heart desires too. Much love always.”

When the incident happened, Adebisi’s husband, Leke, a businessman, said the nanny gave the family the contacts of her relatives, who they spoke with on the telephone, a reason they never suspected that she had diabolic plans.

“We spoke with two people she introduced to us as her brother and sister. They confirmed that they were her relatives. They gave us a vague description of where they lived in Ikorodu. We agreed to do proper documentation this week.

“It was in less than 24 hours that she went away with the kids. She never gave us an idea that she was on an evil mission. Her spoken English was fluent. She said she had a National Diploma and just wanted to make some money so she could return to school,” he said.

Meanwhile, Online Classifieds site, OLX, has reacted to the abduction of the Orekoya kids by the nanny in Lagos saying it has always urged parties to take necessary precautionary checks when using OLX.

Below is the response:

This is an unfortunate situation and our sympathies go out to the victim and their family. OLX is an online classifieds site that brings buyers and sellers together to promote trade. We take steps to moderate and review all ads but we do not participate in the negotiations between buyers and sellers. Transactions are performed directly between both parties. In all our marketing campaign, we continuously urge our users to take necessary precautionary checks when using OLX.

We continue to innovate and improve our review process with tighter measures that would help to minimize future occurrence of negative incidents. We also need our users to help us kick out bad players and ask them to report any dubious activity or user on the site for immediate action. Our customer support team can be reached at 0700-CALL-OLX (0700-22-55-659) or at support-ng@olx.com.

We sincerely hope that the 3 kids are returned safely to their loved ones. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and we will provide all help within our capacity to facilitate the quick reunion of the 3 children with their family.
