We’ll provide security for election materials meant for riverine areas --- Navy

The Nigerian Navy has stated that it was ready to provide security for the election materials meant for use in the riverine areas.

Rear Adm. Henry Babalola, the new Flag Officer Commanding (FOC), Eastern Naval Command, made this known to newsmen in Port Harcourt, Rivers.

He, however, said that the deployment of troops would be at the request of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

``We will standby to assist INEC to provide security to transport electoral materials to riverine areas when we are called upon.

PDP chieftain urges security agents to prosecute suspects who burnt Jonathan’s campaign buses in Jos

The running mate to Nasarawa State PDP gubernatorial candidate, Mr John Mathew,  has urged security agents to do everything humanly possible to arrest and prosecute hoodlums that burnt down two PDP buses in Jos.

Mathew, who made the call in an interview, said this would serve as a deterrent to others who might want to perpetrate such acts.

He said the recent incident in Jos where hoodlums burnt down vehicles crested with President Goodluck Jonathan's posters was a wake-up call for security agencies ahead of next month's general elections.

Security guard in court for stealing his employer's gun

A security guard, Shola Adeoye, 30, who allegedly stole his employer's gun valued at N270, 000 on Thursday appeared before an Igbosere Magistrates' Court in Lagos.

Adeoye is standing trial on a one-count charge of stealing.

The prosecutor, Cpl. Innocent Odugbo, told the court that the accused committed the offence sometime in June, at Iba in Lagos State.

Odugbo said that the accused stole one pump-action gun with registration No. 909326, valued at N270, 000, property of one Alhaji Ibrahim Ibuoye.
