Security guard in court for stealing his employer's gun

A security guard, Shola Adeoye, 30, who allegedly stole his employer's gun valued at N270, 000 on Thursday appeared before an Igbosere Magistrates' Court in Lagos.

Adeoye is standing trial on a one-count charge of stealing.

The prosecutor, Cpl. Innocent Odugbo, told the court that the accused committed the offence sometime in June, at Iba in Lagos State.

Odugbo said that the accused stole one pump-action gun with registration No. 909326, valued at N270, 000, property of one Alhaji Ibrahim Ibuoye.

He said that the offence contravened Section 285 (9) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2011.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Section 285 (9) provides that any person who steals a property entrusted to him, is liable to seven years’ imprisonment.

The counsel to the accused, Mr. Rufai Adeokpe, urged the court to admit the accused to bail on liberal terms.

The magistrate, Mrs F. O. Botoku, granted him bail in the sum of N100, 000 with two sureties in like sum.

She said that the sureties must have credible means of livelihood and adjourned the case to Jan. 6, 2015 for mention.
