Tinubu didn’t impose Lawan, Gbajabiamila on APC – Boroffice
The Senator
representing Ondo North Senatorial District, Robert Boroffice, on Tuesday
clarified that the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, did not impose Senator
Ahmad Lawan and Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, as consensus candidates of the party
for the National Assembly leadership positions.
There was a general
outcry among some federal lawmakers over the roles played by Tinubu,
towards the inauguration of the eight National Assembly when the election into
the office of the Senate President; his deputy; Speaker of the House of
Representatives and his deputy, were conducted.
Melaye opposes National Assembly N9 billion wardrobe allowance, denies branding wine
The Senator representing Kogi West, Dino Melaye, has criticized
the N9 billion wardrobe allowance expected to be collected by Senators and
House of Representative members.
Senator Melaye, an APC member who supported the candidacy of
Bukola Saraki for Senate President as opposed to the All Progressives Congress’
choice of Ahmed Lawan, said he stands by his word that there should be a pay
cut in the chambers.
Woman bites off rapist’s manhood in Lagos
A rapist has met his waterloo in Lagos as the lady he wanted
to rape ended up biting off the cap of his penis.
The incident was reported to have happened when a man took
his girlfriend to his friend’s house.
While a few hours later, the lady ran out screaming for
help, saying she had been raped, not
long after the man, with blood all over his body, also ran out crying for help.

BREAKING: Sepp Blatter resigns as FIFA president
Sepp Blatter, FIFA’s long-time president, announced on
Tuesday that he would be resigning as soon as an extraordinary FIFA congress
has elected a successor.
Blatter had won a fifth term as president just last Friday
and seemed to feel vindicated in two victory speeches, after yet another round
of scandals had beset him and his organization.
The FIFA president Sepp Blatter is resigning as president of
FIFA amid a growing corruption scandal.
A recent indictment by the Department of Justice had led to
the arrest of nine of his close associates last week.

Indigenes of Ogun State residing in Canada have appealed to
President Muhammadu Buhari and their home state Governor, Senator Ibikunle
Amosun, to urgently strive to turn around Nigeria for good and rekindle the
hope of citizens.

Association Canada Inc, also urged other elected political office holders to

The Governor of Ekiti State, Ayo Fayose, has asked President
Muhammadu Buhari to grant him the privilege to nominate a candidate to fill the
slot of the state in the Federal Executive Council.
Mr. Fayose, who made the request in a letter to the
President dated May 31, 2015, said if the request was granted by the President,
he would send a worthy and competent Ekiti professional for appointment in the
federal executive council.
In the letter confirmed by the Special Assistant to the
Governor on Media, Lere Olayinka, the governor noted, “Should the request be
favourably disposed to, I shall be happy to nominate a worthy and competent
professional who can always oblige your excellency and your cabinet the benefit
of a second opinion in the serious business of governance.”
Depots owners, petroleum marketers dare Buhari, insist fuel scarcity will continue unless..
Unless the Mohammadu Buhari-led Federal government pays the outstanding subsidy claim, the scarcity of petroleum products being experienced in the country would persist, the Depots and Petroleum Products Marketers Association of Nigeria (DAPPMA) has warned.
Mr Adewole Olufemi, the Executive Secretary of the
association, gave the warning on Tuesday in Lagos.
Olufemi said that the marketers had stopped importation of
petroleum products because of outstanding subsidy claims and commercial banks
refusal to offer members additional loans.
“After the Petroleum Tanker Drivers (PTD) and National Road
Transport Association (NARTO) suspended their strike on May 25, all our depots
were opened and we dispensed the little the stocks therein.

President Muhammadu Buhari has said that he will seek the
support of Europe, America and Nigeria’s neighbours in tackling the
unemployment and security problems confronting the country.
Buhari gave the indication on Friday in his remarks at the
inauguration Gala Night held at the Banquet hall of the Presidential Villa.
He said that his administration would focus on agriculture
and mining to engage the unemployed youths who form more than 60 per cent of
the population.
``I ask Nigerians to please bear with us; a lot of damage
has been done,’’ he said.
He said that he had lost elections in the past three times
and gone to the tribunal with the help of Nigerians, but that he was happy that
the will of Nigerians made his victory possible this time around.

I am immensely grateful to God, who has preserved us to
witness this day and this occasion.
Today marks a triumph for Nigeria and an occasion to
celebrate her freedom and cherish her democracy. Nigerians have shown their
commitment to democracy and are determined to entrench its culture.
Our journey has not been easy but thanks to the
determination of our people and strong support from friends abroad we have
today a truly democratically elected government in place.
I would like to thank President Goodluck Jonathan for his
display of statesmanship in setting a precedent for us that has now made our
people proud to be Nigerians wherever they are. With the support and
cooperation he has given to the transition process, he has made it possible for
us to show the world that despite the perceived tension in the land we can be a
united people capable of doing what is right for our nation.
Together we co-operated to surprise the world that had come
to expect only the worst from Nigeria. I hope this act of graciously accepting
defeat by the outgoing president will become the standard of political conduct
in the country.
I would like to thank the millions of our supporters who
believed in us even when the cause seemed hopeless. I salute their resolve in
waiting long hours in rain and hot sunshine to register and cast their votes
and stay all night if necessary to protect and ensure their votes count and
were counted.

Surprising: Buhari shuns presidential pre-inauguration Jumat service, quietly jets out to UK

The president-elect, General Mohammadu Buhari took many by
surprise on Friday as he was disappointedly absent at the special Friday
service to mark the beginning of a weeklong activities of his inauguration next
week.
Journalists who were invited to cover the ceremony had
gathered but to the chagrin of everyone, Buhari was not sighted anywhere around
the crowded mosque.
No official reason was given for his absence at the mosque.
However, it began to dawn on many that the news report
earlier by an online news medium, Shaharareporters that Buhari had jetted out
of the country to the United Kingdom, UK, in early hours of Friday morning was
actually true, when former Vice President and chieftain of All Progressives
Congress, APC, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar stepped out of the mosque and announced
that he was Buhari’s representative at the special service.
Femi Adesina: This time next week
Perhaps my worst day ever was August 27, 1985, when the
military coup that ousted Major General Muhammadu Buhari from power was
announced. Major General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, then the Chief of Army
Staff, supplanted his boss in office, and held that position for eight years.
Buhari went into the valley of life, and stayed there for
many years. Even his marriage and home suffered terribly. But in 1989, he
picked up the pieces of marital life again, marrying pretty and winsome Aisha
from Adamawa State.
Also in 2003, the man from Daura, in Katsina State, took the
gauntlet by running for the county’s number one position, on platform of the
then All Nigerian Peoples Party (ANPP). He ran again in 2007, in 2011, and also
in 2015. He finally won, and this time next week, he would be inaugurated as
President.
This Time Next Week. That is the title of a 1964 book by
Leslie Thomas, which I read well over 30 years ago. The book deals with the
escapades of some young boys growing up in an orphanage, and what a rib cracking
volume it is. I read it over and over again.
Stakeholders, LAMATA endorse Ikorodu BRT extension project implementation
With the successful completion of the of the much publicised
N30 billion expansion work on the 13.5 kilometre Mile12 to Ikorodu Road
project, stakeholders are expressing relief and optimism as the Lagos
Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) is set to roll out 400 buses to

For the residents of Ikorodu town of Lagos state, they seem
to have every cause to be delighted. With the successful completion of the much
publicised N30 billion expansion work on the 13.5 kilometre Mile12 to Ikorodu
Road project, as expected, the nightmare they have been experiencing over the
years over persistent traffic snarl seem to be over.
Basking in the euphoria of the successful completion of the
road expansion project, at an enlarged stakeholders meeting organised by the
promoter of the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT ) extension project along the Mile
12-Ikorodu town axis, Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA),
stakeholders mainly from Ikorodu expressed optimism and support for the
project.
Children who stay indoors risk Myopia, says Ophthalmologists
Ophthalmologists have revealed that children who spent more
time staying indoors were more likely to develop myopia than their peers who
played outdoors.
Myopia or Nearsightedness is the most common refractive
error of the eye, and it has become more prevalent in recent years.
According to the experts, myopia was very common and could
occur in children between the ages of four and 12 years.
N1.1bn subsidy-fraud: EFCC re-arraigns 3 oil marketers
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on
Friday re-arraigned three oil marketers--- Opeyemi Ajuyah, Abdullahi Alao and
Olarenwaju Olalusi-- over an alleged N1.1 billion fuel-subsidy fraud.
The defendants were charged before Justice Lateefa Okunnu of
an Ikeja High Court.
They were re-arraigned on an amended eight-count charge
alongside their companies--- Majope Investment Ltd., and Axenergy Ltd.
Boko Haram: Reject abortion option for 214 rescued pregnant women, group urges FG
The Director-General, Project for Human Development (PHD), Mr
Jerry Okwuosa, on Friday urged the Federal Government to declare the plight of
rescued pregnant women a national emergency.
Okwuosa, who made the call in an interview with the News
Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos, said the government should also reject the
proposed abortion option.
The PHD director-general was reacting to the abortion option
by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA).
Ireland votes on legalising gay marriage
A report said on Friday in Dublin that people are to vote
Yes or No to an amendment to the constitution which states, “Marriage may be
contracted in accordance with law by two persons without distinction as to
their sex.”
It said polling stations opened at 7am and are scheduled to
remain open until 10pm.
