Tribunal grants Agbaje leave to inspect governorship election materials

 Contrary to expectations that Lagos state People’s Democratic Party Governorship candidate, Mr. Jimi Agbaje might have toiled the same line with President Goodluck Jonathan who conceded defeat and decide not to challenge his opponent in court, the PDP candidate popularly called JK is not giving up in his quest to govern the Centre of Excellence.

Agbaje had petitioned the tribunal over the election, which he lost to Ambode of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Agbaje had alleged some irregularities during the election, which he said, contravened the provisions of INEC approved guidelines for the election.

As the legal battle begins, on Tuesday, the Lagos State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal granted Agbaje leave to inspect all polling materials and documents used in the April 11 governorship election in the state.

Agbaje urges Lagosians to ignore online results, insists he has not lost

The governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in Lagos State, Mr. Jimi Agbaje, has urged his supporters to disregard the figures being circulated online.


Agbaje said on his Facebook page that he was still hopeful of victory, adding that they should wait for the official figures from the Independent National Electoral Commission.


He said, “I want to assure you that we are currently monitoring the vote counting process so please do not believe the various unofficial numbers that are being shared across the Internet .


“An official announcement will be made at the appropriate time when all numbers are in. Continue to remain resolute. Thank you for your continued support. “


Though INEC is yet to announce the final results of the Lagos state gubernatorial election, results have continued to awash social networks indicating that the All Progressive Congress candidate, Akinwunmi Ambode is in clear lead in most of the local governments. 

APC panicking over Agbaje’s chances of winning Lagos Guber poll – Fani-Kayode

Director of Media and Publicity of the Peoples Democratic Party Presidential Campaign Organisation, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, has faulted the allegations by the All Progressives Congress that President Goodluck Jonathan has strategised to rig Saturday governorship election in Lagos State in favour of PDP candidate, Mr Jimi Agbaje.

He said the APC is in panic mode “because it knows that Agbaje is going to win the election.”

Fani-Kayode, in a statement on Friday in Abuja, said this was the first time in 16 years that the APC, together with the opposition tendencies it represents, was facing a formidable challenge from a governorship candidate of the PDP in the state.

He said, “It is not true that the President has any rigging plan for Lagos and neither do we need any such plan because our party is very strong there.

The All Progressives Congress has raised the alarm over President Goodluck Jonathan’s unannounced visit to Lagos State a day to the governorship election.

National Publicity Secretary of the APC, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, in a statement, wondered why Jonathan arrived in Lagos late on Thursday.

He said Jonathan had a closed-door meeting with the Peoples Democratic Party governorship candidate, Mr. Jimi Agbaje; the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs II, Musiliu Obanikoro; and the National Coordinator of the Oodua Peoples Congress, Gani Adams.

Mohammed alleged that the meeting was obviously to strategise on how to manipulate the polls.

He said Jonathan was using the general perception, that he is a ‘good sportsman’, to deceive Nigerians.

Some heavyweight politicians lost their polling units in yesterday’s elections.


A major loss by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is the one at the two polling units in front of Aso Villa – the Presidential abode.


The All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate Gen. Muhammadu Buhari won in the two units.
Buhari got a total of 613 votes, while Jonathan polled a total of 595 votes.


Vice President Namadi Sambo got the same treatment in the former polling unit (Kabala 005) in Kaduna where the APC received overwhelming majority of votes.


The APC scored 386 votes to beat the PDP that scored 53 votes in the presidential election. APC got 385 and 369 votes in the senate and house of assembly elections respectively while the PDP got 59 and 62 respectively.
The results were announced by the presiding officer Abdulfatah Ali.


In Lagos State Governorship candidate Jimi Agbaje’s Apapa polling unit the APC won 126 votes while PDP won 60.

Agbaje warns supporters against violence

The governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party [PDP] in Lagos State, Mr Jimi Agbaje has called on his supporters to eschew violence ahead of the coming general election.

Agbaje spoke at the PDP rallies in Mushin and Oshodi-Isolo Local Government Areas of the state.

Earlier in the day, the governorship candidates in the state, had signed a pact for non-violence before, during and after the polls.

Ambode leads Agbaje in pre-election opinion poll

The latest opinion poll released by the NOI Polls, on Tuesday has shown Akinwunmi Ambode, the All Progressives Congress, APC, candidate narrowly leading Jimi Agbaje, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, candidate.

The survey, conducted in collaboration with ANAP Foundation, showed a close race between the two top gubernatorial aspirants.
