Bayern Munich captain Philipp Lahm broke his ankle during training on Tuesday and is out of action for up to three months, the Bundesliga leaders said on Twitter.

``Big blow for Philipp Lahm: The captain has suffered a fractured ankle. He needs an operation and will be out for around 3 months!’’ Munich said.

Lahm will missing the remaining games of the year and likely also to miss the late January Bundesliga restart after a six-week winter break.

He is the latest injury casualty for Munich who also have Javi Martinez, David Alaba, Thiago, Holger Badstuber, Claudio Pizarro, Tom Starke and Pepe Reina, sidelined.
