No fewer than 5, 000 students of Moshood Abiola
Polytechnic, MAPOLY, Abeokuta, on Tuesday took their matriculation oath after
being admitted to read National Diploma (ND) and Higher National Diploma (HND)
courses.
Addressing the new students, the Rector of the Polytechnic,
Prof. Oludele Itiola, assured them of an enabling academic environment with
modern facilities to enable them excel in their studies.
He said that some old students of the institution had made
giant stride in the production of locally produced goods.
He listed some of the goods produced by the students to
include solar-powered streetlights, tricycles, generating set fueled by
kerosene and petrol and electronic ballot box.
He said: ``the fact that all our programmes are accredited
and our renowned status in Mass Communication, Accountancy and the Sciences,
stand us out from our contemporaries.
He pledged that the management of the Polytechnic would
improve on the teaching and learning conditions of the students; improve staff
welfare and provide modern health care delivery for the Polytechnic community.
Itiola said that plans had reached advance stage to
collaborate with foreign institutions to upgrade the Polytechnic to a
degree-awarding institution.
During the oath taking, the new students promised to refrain
from all acts of violence within or outside the polytechnic, which could
disrupt academic activities or bring the name of the institution into
disrepute.
