Contrary to the expectations of those angling for sack of
Coach Stephen Keshi as Super Eagles Head Coach after failing to qualify the
team for the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations, they might need to wait a bit longer.
This is because the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has no
plans to sack the coach for now.
A member of the board of the NFF, who preferred anonymity,
informed at the weekend that the board is not considering sacking the coach for
now.
The board reluctance is not unconnected with the foisting of
the coach on the NFF by President Goodluck Jonathan after the coach was sacked
by the board last month.
Rather, the board is considering making the coach report to
the Technical Director, Shaibu Amodu.
The move, we learn’t is to ensure that Keshi is kept away
from the board as much as possible.
“There is no plan to sack Keshi for now,” the source said.
“The presidency will be regretting their action by now,
“noted the source, adding, “What is in the offing is to ensure that the coach
reports to Shaibu Amodu, the technical director.”
Even as the board is not prepared to sack the coach, the
source, however, pleaded with Keshi to take a walk on the premise that, that
was the honourable thing for him to do for now.
“It is in his interest to just walk away because the
federation does not like him (Keshi), the people are against him. There is no
section of the football family that is happy with him. Let him just take a
walk.”
Presently, the coach has no contract with the NFF. His
contract renewal has been stalled since the team crashed out of the 2014 World
Cup in Brazil last July.
