Police uncovers fake CP's facebook account in Lagos

The Lagos State Police Command on Tuesday said that it has uncovered a fake Facebook account bearing the name of its Commissioner, Mr Kayode Aderanti.

This is contained in a statement by the Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Kenneth Nwosu.

``The account in question, which is `CP Kayode Aderanti’ was recently introduced by one shadowy character as the authentic Facebook account of the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command.

``It was introduced to members of the Social Network with the intention of giving the impression that images being displayed and comments from this account are by the reputable Commissioner of Police, Lagos State," it stated.

However, the statement said that the commissioner does not operate a Facebook account, either official or private.

``For the avoidance of doubt, the Commissioner of Police Lagos State Command, CP Kayode Aderanti, does not in any way operate a Facebook account (either official or private).

``Therefore, the CP advises all members of the public and in particular Facebook users to ignore the said account as it does not belong to him.

``Consequently, any correspondence or exchange of messages on the page has nothing to do with the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, or any officer of the Nigeria Police Force at large.

``We therefore advise the general public to disregard any comments, solicitations and approaches from this account as it is certainly not operated by CP Kayode Aderanti or any of his officers," it said.

But the command assured that efforts were being made to apprehend the character(s) behind the fraudulent account.

He said that the Police would not relent in combating crime, and ensure that Lagos residents and all others who have cause to come to Lagos enjoy a conducive environment for business and leisure.
