Daniel remains our leader in Ogun PDP, says Chairman

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun has denied that the former Ogun Governor, Gbenga Daniel, was planning to defect to another party.

The State Chairman of the party, Mr Adebayo Dayo, stated this at the inauguration of a 35-member gubernatorial campaign committee in Abeokuta.

He said Daniel remained the leader of the party in the state and that he was determined to work for the success of the party at the polls.

``It is just a rumour that he is planning to dump the party.

``I spoke with him; he is still with us and 100 percent with the PDP and has been very supportive.

``We are together and we will remain together because he has been protecting the interest of the party," Dayo said.

On the recent defection of some members to other parties, the PDP chieftain said it was a ``personal decision’’, adding ``everybody has the right to be associated with any group.’’

He said the party would not stop anybody from defecting.

Dayo, however, appealed to aggrieved aspirants to come together as one family to ensure the party’s success at the polls.

``It is only when we work together and win the elections that we can make them to be relevant.’’

On the issue of deputy governorship candidate, the chairman said that the issue would be resolved soon, adding ``the party is trying to avoid a Muslim-Muslim ticket.

Dayo urged members of the campaign committee to work as a team and campaign vigorously.

He also appealed to them to carry along all those who lost out at the party’s primaries.

Mr Yomi Majekodunmi, the Director General of the Committee, promised that the campaigns would be issued-based.

``The state deserves better than what it is now.’’

Other members of the committee include Mr Yemi Akinwonmi, (Ogun East), Dr Kunle Salako, (Ogun West), Mr Segun Sowunmi, (Ogun Central)
