Polytechnics lecturers suspend planned strike

The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics, ASUP has shelved its planned strike, billed to begin on Wednesday.

The decision to suspend the strike action was reached today (Tuesday) after meeting with the education minister, Ibrahim Shekarau.

Speaking to journalists after another meeting with the house committee on education the same day, ASUP president, Chibuzor Asomugha said the Federal Government has agreed to withdraw the circular on salary structure, which is a major propeller of the recent threat by the union.

He however said the decision to call off the strike will be taken after the meeting of the union’s national executive congress.

The polytechnics lecturers had resumed work six months ago after a protracted 12 month-old industrial action over non- implementation of agreements reached.
