Christians must participate actively in 2015 elections, says cleric

Baba Aladura Abidoye
The Spiritual Leader of the Cherubim and Seraphim Movement Church, Worldwide, Prophet Samuel Abidoye, has called on Christians to actively participate in the forthcoming general elections.

Abidoye gave the advice on Sunday in his sermon at the ordination of some members of the church’s Ilorin District Headquarters.

He said the active participation of Christians remained the only way they could contribute immensely to the development of the country and decide who would rule them.

The cleric said one of the civic responsibilities of a good Christian was to pray for the peace and improvement of the country.

``I will however advise you not to join anybody to plot against the country. You should do everything possible to work for the unity of the nation,’’ he said.

Abidoye charged the country’s leaders to make the welfare of the people their priority and to build an egalitarian society.

``We should assist the less privileged to give them hope,’’ he said.

The religious leader condemned the killings in the north-eastern part of the country, and urged the three tiers of government to be alive to their responsibilities of improving the society.

Abidoye also called on the newly-ordained members to uphold their calling and preach the truth to salvage the country.
