The Buhari Support Organisation (BSO) has kicked against the
suggestion by the National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki, for the postponement
of February general elections.
The Director, Media Management of the organisation, Dr
Chidia Maduekwe, said in a news conference on Friday in Abuja that the advice
contravened the Abuja Accord recently signed by President Goodluck Jonathan and
11 other presidential candidates.
Maduekwe called on the international community to advise the
Federal Government on the issue.
``We are totally taken aback by the suggestion made
yesterday by the NSA to the effect that the February, 2015, elections should be
postponed.
``As the NSA and a close associate of the president, it is
expected that he should be very conversant with the security implications of
such postponement.
``We appeal to the international community for assistance to
advise President Jonathan on the need to keep strictly to the terms of the
Abuja Accord,’’ Maduekwe said.
He also pleaded with organisers of the Abuja Accord to
deploy their ‘’local and international reach’’ to prevent the abortion of the
well-thought-out plan for Nigeria to hold peaceful elections in February.
He called on civil society organisations, trade unions,
organized labour and associations of professionals to rise and assist INEC to
deliver on its promise to conduct the elections.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that the NSA had,
at a meeting of think-tanks at Chatham House, London, suggested that the
elections should be postponed to enable all registered voters to get the
permanent voter card.
