The red coloured-robe put on by the former governor of the
Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the Emir of Kano, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, now
known as Alhaji Muhammed Sanusi has been revealed as a sign of receiving an
unwanted guest.
A prominent Kano indigene, who would not want his name to be
mentioned, told Mega StarNews that traditionally,
there are robes of different colours put on by the Emir to carry a particular
message at every occasion.
“When you see the emir putting on red regalia, that is to
show that he is receiving an unwanted visitor who has to be received by the
emir by all means. You can’t see Kano
Emir putting on red colour.
“For instance, if the Emir is out to publicly assert his
authority on an issue, you will see him putting on black robe.” He said.
President Goodluck Jonathan had on Wednesday visited Sanusi,
whom he had a fractious relationship at a time.
It would be Jonathan suspended Sanusi as CBN governor months
to the end of his tenure, and the action generated a series of law suits, as
Sanusi pushed for the court to void his suspension.
However, both men
made up after Sanusi emerged emir of Kano. It was also reported than that the
presidency had made spirited efforts in making sure that Sanusi did not get turbaned
as the Emir of Kano.
In continuation of their new-found relationship, both men
met up on Wednesday morning, shortly before the president commenced his
re-election campaign rally in the state.
