Stealing is not corruption, President Jonathan insists

Nigeria's President Goodluck Jonathan has reiterated his belief that a distinction should made between stealing and corruption.

According to the President,  the word 'corruption' has been grossly abused.

During the Special Presidential Media Chat held last night, reacting to the question that has gone viral in the past few months that he had mentioned that stealing is not corruption, the president stated:

“I quoted the ex-Chief Judge (Justice Mustapha) when I said stealing is not corruption.  Stealing and corruption are not the same thing. In the Western part of the country, when you say someone is corrupt, he would be ignored, but if you call him ole or thief, you can imagine what would happen to him.

“Thieves should be called thieves.

"If you leave a goat and yam together, then goat will eat the yam. You must remove the goat from the yam to prevent corruption.....corruption is not thief, thief is thief and corruption is corruption" -

“ We must stop people from stealing by making sure we don't put money where people can take it -
