Farmers in Oke-Ogun area of Oyo State have pledged support
for the re-election of President Goodluck Jonathan.
They made the declaration in Iseyin on Tuesday at an
interactive session with Chief Olajumoke Akinjide, the Minister of State for
the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), who was on a campaign tour of the area.
The spokesman of the farmers, Alhaji Hassan Tijani, said
that Nigerians needed a leader who would uphold the unity of the country and
see Nigeria as one entity irrespective of tribe, religion or political
affiliation.
Tijani, who described Jonathan as man of peace, said that
the president had never incited Nigerians against themselves.
He said that all the farmers in Oke Ogun had vowed to give
maximum support to the president’s re-election.
Tijani commended the president for making fertiliser and
other farm inputs available directly to farmers, noting that it had
tremendously improved the output of farmers across the state.
He appealed to Nigerians to vote en-mass for the re-election
of the president so as to uphold the unity of the country.
In her remarks, Akinjide said that Jonathan would continue
to engage in activities capable of promoting the unity, stability and progress
of the country.
She noted that the president was aware of the importance of
agriculture in promoting economic development, saying he had recorded giant
strides in the provision of creating an enabling environment for farmers.
