The Deputy Corp Marshal, Federal Road Safety Commission
(FRSC), Mr Charles Theophilus, has said that the commission has concluded plans
to conduct drivers’ licence verification nationwide.
Theophilus made this known at a one day capacity building
programme organised for the South-East FRSC staff in the driver’s licence
centre in Enugu.
``We will commence verification of licence very soon to see
if the licence obtained is actually produced by the FRSC, Vehicle Inspection
Office and Board of Internal Revenue.
``It is a tripartite arrangement to find out if a person
went elsewhere to obtain his or her driver’s licence,” he said.
He added that the staff of the FRSC would be on road to
carry out the verification exercise using the verification portal that been created
by the commission.
The deputy corp marshal also urged the public to make sure
they acquire certified driving knowledge before licence collection.
He explained the processes involved in the issuance of the
drivers’ licence, and advised applicants who want to acquire a drivers’ licence
to go through certified driving schools.
He advised the public not to pay money in cash to any staff
of the commission rather they should go to the appropriate places designated
for the payment.
``It is not right to give anyone money for the purpose of
collecting a driving licence,’’ he said.
He said that the one day capacity building programme for the
staff was to boost their service delivery, improve productivity and to update
them on issues involving drivers’ licence technology.
Some of the participants, Mr George Gwallang, said it was a
good thing to participate in the programme, saying that the technological
aspect of the processes was worth learning.
Fammi Nwafor said that she had acquired more knowledge on
how to relate with the public.
