Presidential Commitee on Immigration recruitment set for final phase of exercise

Applicants for the last year's immigration exercise which led to deaths of many as a result of stampede. INSET: Abba Moro, Interior Minister
The Presidential Committee assigned to assist in fresh recruitment into the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) is set to hold the final phase of the exercise at all immigration state command centres nationwide from May 5 to May 7, 2015.

According to information contained in the web portal created to accomodate and manage the online recruitment process,www.nis.fedcivilservice.gov.ng, about 24, 678 applicants will participate in the final phase.

The Mega StarNews on Monday gathered that shortlisted applicants participating in this phase are to undergo physical examination, document verification and oral interview.

Earlier, Mr Chukwuemeka Obua, the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the service, said that the physical examination was to check the height, physical disabilities and general state of health of applicants.

Obua said that would ensure that those employed were fit to carry out all the duties assigned to them.

The PRO said that certificates and relevant documents of applicants would also be reviewed during the examination after which successful candidates would be contacted online, informing them of their successful employment.

One of the shortlisted applicants, who spoke to NAN on condition of anonymity, said applicants had been directed to undergo the physical examination at immigration's command offices located in their states of origin.

He said that applicants were personally informed through email of their success at the just concluded Computer-Based Test (CBT) and where and when to attend the examination.

Another applicant, who also spoke on condition of anonymity, said she was not shortlisted for the final phase, blaming it on insufficient time allocated for the test.

She said that one hour was allocated to answer questions in mathematics, English, logical reasoning and current affairs, adding that the Maths questions were difficult.

The recruitment process had commenced in February with online registration of interested job seekers after which shortlisted applicants were mandated to undergo a CBT.

The CBT was adopted to test the computer literacy level of applicants which, according to Obua, is a basic requirement for employment into the service.
